Can Van Jones be the next Voice?

The final speaker at Pop!Tech 2007 was Van Jones, an environmental and civil rights campaigner based in California, who talked about his new project Green For All and talked about his push for “green collar jobs” to help lift kids out of urban poverty.

You can watch his Pop!Cast:

Anyway, as if that wasn’t enough, Van has another iron in the fire: he’s in the running to be a regular commentator on the hugely popular Tom Joyner Morning Show (10m+ listeners). For a few years Tavis Smiley has been the commentator of choice on the show, but following his departure, the show is casting around for a replacement.

And here’s where we need the help of the Pop!Tech community: to get Van the gig! The BlackAmericaWeb site is holding a public vote, and you can listen to Van’s broadcast and vote for it there. It’d be a great way to get the message of this inspiring activist out into the wider community.
