Save water, keep space

July 30th, 2008 by Michelle Riggen-Ransom · 5 Comments

Short on space but long on water? The folks at RainwaterHOG have a smart solution for people wanting to catch and use rainwater, but who don’t have the space for a bulky rain barrel.

The RainwaterHOG has a capacity of 180L/47 Gallons and measures just 1800mm x 500mm x 220mm. With its small size and sleek dimensions, the Rainwater HOG can fit under decks, up against walls or along side passageways. Portable and lightweight, the modular units are both stylish and green. They’re made from 100% recyclable virgin polyethylene, a durable material that allows them to be shipped entirely without packaging.

Australian architect/industrial designer Sally Dominguez designed the RainwaterHOG after being told there wasn’t a solution small enough to fit under her small garden deck.

“I designed HOG when I perceived a gap in the building market for small dimension tanks,” Domingues says. “People in smaller properties, with smaller gardens and lower water usage, still want to do the right thing.” The HOGs can be installed by a single person, and they’re portable so you can take them with you if you move.

Installing a RainwaterHOG, rain barrel or other means to harvest rain is good for the environment (helps prevent storm runoff), reduces one’s dependency on the water main and shrinks your water bill. Nothing piggish about that.
